Delivering a baby via Cesarean section is a major abdominal surgery. While your attention will naturally be focused on your beautiful new baby, it is absolutely critical that you dedicate time and patience to your own physical recovery.
Healing from a C-section takes longer than a vaginal delivery, and pushing yourself too hard, too soon, can lead to complications. The first few weeks at home are about resting, managing discomfort, and allowing your incision to heal properly.
* Prioritize Rest: Sleep when the baby sleeps, and avoid lifting anything heavier than your newborn.
Stay Ahead of the Pain: Take your prescribed pain medications on schedule; don’t wait for the pain to become severe.
Support Your Incision: Hold a pillow gently against your stomach when coughing, laughing, or sneezing.
Gentle Movement: Take very short, slow walks around the house to prevent blood clots, but avoid strenuous exercise.
Watch for Infection: Keep your incision clean and dry, and look out for redness, swelling, or fever.
